Get Online Week Event grants are one-off $1,000 grants available to all Be Connected Network Partners to host a face-to-face or online event during Get Online Week (19 - 25 October 2020) to promote your organisation and reach new people in your community.
Get Online Week is an international digital inclusion campaign organised by Good Things Foundation. Last year, over 1,000 events were held across Australia during Get Online Week, helping people with limited digital skills get more out of life online.
This year's campaign will take place from 19 - 25 October 2020, and all Get Online Week Event grant holders will engage their communities and spread the message that now’s the time to get online. This year, in addition to face-to-events, we are offering organisations the opportunity to host an online event. You may wish to run an online trivia game, host an online cooking class, or play a group game online bingo.
Applications are open Monday, 27 July - Wednesday, 9 September 2020.
Network Partners are eligible to apply for one $1,000 Get Online Week Event grant in 2020 and there will not be a second round of applications this year.
Attracting community members to attend your event.
Last year, the Seniors Recreation Council of Western Australia put their grant funds towards hosting a Get Online Week expo that attracted 79 attendees from their community in Perth.
Martin Yates, Tech Savvy Seniors Program Manager for the Seniors Recreation Council, finds that some people are resistant to using technology so they kept the focus of their Get Online Week event on making learning digital skills fun, relevant and interesting. He says, “The main thing that the community gets out of Get Online Week is the enthusiasm or excitement to use technology.”

Unlike last year, where we had two rounds of funding for Get Online Week grants, this year there will be only one funding opportunity available for organisations to apply for funding.

What can the grant be used for?
The funding can be spent on activities that can be justified as supporting your Get Online Week event, such as:
Each organisation receiving a Get Online Week Event grant will be required to host a face-to-face or online event during Get Online Week.
All Network Partners will be required to complete a detailed report of their Get Online Week activity including funding expenditure. The report should outline when, where and for how long the event took place, how many people attended, images, quotes and stories, as well as itemised expenditure.
Government Regulations on Social Gathering
Organisations who wish to hold a face-to-face event must ensure that, at the time of submitting their application and during Get Online Week, their event is within federal, state and local government safety laws and regulations on public gatherings. This includes implementing appropriate COVID Safety plans.
All community organisations in Victoria should plan for online-only events for Get Online Week.
We are living in uncertain times and we appreciate that circumstances and regulations may change between now and Get Online Week. Please prioritise the safety of your community as the situation changes and contact us if you need to change the format of your event after you have submitted your grant application, such as by changing your face-to-face event to an online event (see grant guidelines below).
